Most of the time when we think about staying healthy and young we focus on our appearance and what we can do with our physical health. Although exercise and nutrition are extremely important, it is also important to make sure you look after your mental health too.

As you get older, you may see signs that you are slower in thought, less sharp, and more forgetful. There are ways that you help your brain stay sharp as you age though.

Use Puzzles And Games To Keep Your Mind Active​

If you don’t use your brain as you get older you may lose some of its ability. Ok, so the brain isn’t a muscle, but you do need to keep it in shape. This means it needs various activities in order to keep it strong. It could be playing an online game such as the snake google game, or doing a sudoku, or crossword puzzle, which are good at looking after your vocabulary and the logical side of the brain. They can help you to improve memory and puzzle-solving.

Make Sure You Relax​

It might be easier said than done, however, you need to pencil in some time to relax. It’s all well and good to keep your brain sharp with activities and learning new skills, but if you don’t take the time to relax it’ll all be for waste. Living a stressful life and lead to brain fog and heart problems. One of the best things you can try is to include meditation or five minutes of your time once a day. If you feel like things might be getting a little too much make sure you try to recognize this and take the time to relax.

Enjoy Some Music​

There are so many reasons to sit back and enjoy some music. It can be a motivator, mood lifter, relaxer, and help you to be more creative. There are also many mental benefits to listening to music, this includes improving your memory. Whether you just listen to music or play an instrument, it is strongly linked to maths and can help your brain to stay functional and work well as you age. Even if you feel like listening to music isn’t doing much for you because you’re simply enjoying it, you are reaping the benefits.

Spend Time With Friends​

As you get older it might be a little more effort to plan a get-together with your friends, however, it is worth the time. Isolation is one of the leading contributors to cognitive decline, therefore, staying in touch with old friends is important. Communication, socializing, and seeing people face to face do a lot to support the health of your brain.
