PlayStation suspends Facebook and Instagram advertising

Sony's PlayStation has suspended advertising campaigns on Facebook and Instagram, joining the likes of Microsoft's Xbox, Coca-Cola, Starbucks and Ford in the #StopHateForProfit campaign.

Sony told GamesIndustry:

In support of the #StopHateForProfit campaign, we have globally suspended our Facebook and Instagram activity, including advertising and non-paid content, until the end of July. We stand for working (and playing) together for good.

In the beginning of the week, Bloomberg reported that Microsoft has also suspended advertising on both social media platforms for the same reason, though the move had come at the same time Microsoft had axed its Mixer streaming service, sending all users over to Facebook Gaming.

Do you support Sony's and Microsoft's decision to boycott Facebook and Instagram? Why or why not?

Facebook are not going to be bothered by this. Facebooks biggest advertising market share is from small business not giant corporations.

This will definitely bother them. It gives them a bad look and good potentially lead to them losing a few smaller businesses as well. The fact that these big corporations are willing to do these things are a nice gesture.

Facebook plays from both ends. And considering they are also the one to attack the conservatives and the left wing. It is bound to happen that some point the advertising of the brands from around the world would cease for one reason or the other. We just have to wait and see where this goes.

I support Sony's decision to boycott Facebook.
While the actual damages in terms of revenue probably won't add up to much (as a few posters in this thread have pointed out) the actual symbolism of Sony suspending their ad campaigns will have quite a heavy effect on Facebook's image.

I think that Trump/Twitter is the catalyst after POTUS tweeted “when the looting starts the shooting starts” and twitter flagged it as glorifying violence. Facebook was criticised for not taking similar action against the tiny-handed wotsit-faced pussy-grabbing sex-criminal and its snowballed from there. Facebook owns Instagram and are also in the firing line.

People still get to find out the latest news. Just about all blogs and reviews, sites will say the latest news. Seems that they still have Twitter

One election and they will recover this from some of the socialist and communist lobby that has been paying them to manipulate opinion of the people to the left wing. It's been going on since last 10 years. So yeah companies boycotting them would hardly help any way. We just see how the changes go with the efforts of facebook being defensive here.

Yes the thing about the facebook and instagram though, they have the left wing workers. And that makes the whole game differently rigged for them. And so considering how the facebook played in past for the election. I tihnk that is one reason many brands are backing off.
