Why is TF2 still so popular?

In actuality, most games twice as old as Team Fortress 2 have endured much longer periods of time without receiving even a minor patch from their creators. The community of devoted players who continue to support TF2 and give it new life with mods, cosmetics, and innovative tactics to mix up the meta has become its main draw.
