Which Grand Theft Auto game has the best Story Mode?

I've always been super torn on this one - by far, GTA V is the most polished and impressive game I've really ever played (and seems to be the best selling!) but the storyline really didn't hit the same as it has in other titles for me. I think personally that GTA SA will always be the shining star of GTA games, everything just worked so well. GTA V is a close second given the three characters and the interlinking of missions and such but like I say, GTA SA holds a dear place in my heart.

What about you? Which one do you think was the best in terms of it's story mode?
