The first commercially successful video game was "Pong." It was first released in 1972 by Atari. Moneywise, it grossed between 4 and 8 million US dollars at its peak. This was during a time when computer games were unheard of. "Pong" was extremely successful at the time because it was the first game ever to be mass-produced. It was also the first video game ever to be sold in retail stores. Before "Pong", video gaming was exclusively done on computers, which were only available to corporations and universities.
