Whether you’re a fan of action, adventure, strategy, or racing, there’s something for everyone. Here’s a rundown of the top 10 games you should watch in January.
Launching on January 14th, Hyper Light Breaker takes the beloved Hyper Light Drifter universe into new territory. This prequel to the 2D action RPG is now a 3D, co-op roguelike set in a randomly generated world called the Overgrowth. You’ll team up with others to battle the mysterious Abyss King. It promises to expand on the gameplay elements introduced in Solar Ash, another game by Heart Machine. If you're a fan of roguelikes or enjoyed Solar Ash, this one should be right up your alley. It's currently launching in Early Access on PC.
Star Wars Hunters is a free-to-play, squad-based arena combat game that brings the Star Wars universe to life in 4v4 battles. Set after the fall of the Galactic Empire, the game lets players battle it out in iconic locations like Tatooine and Hoth. While it originally launched on mobile platforms, the game is now coming to PC with improved graphics and cross-play between platforms. The game enters Early Access on PC on January 27th, and the next Steam playtest runs from January 10th to 13th.
A new entry in the Orcs Must Die! series, Death Trap introduces four-player co-op and roguelike progression into its familiar action tower defence formula. The game’s blend of placing traps and third-person action combat makes for a fun, frenetic experience. The roguelike elements should add plenty of replay value as well. Orcs Must Die! Death Trap launches on January 28th for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
Arken Age, releasing on January 16th, is a VR action-adventure set in the Bio Chasm, a world where players can explore, craft, and engage in physics-based combat. The game draws inspiration from titles like Skyrim and Horizon Zero Dawn but offers a simpler aesthetic and a 15-hour campaign. With an endless combat mode for replayability, this game promises an immersive experience for VR enthusiasts. It’s coming to PlayStation VR 2 and Steam VR.
The Dynasty Warriors franchise returns with Dynasty Warriors Origins, launching on January 17th for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. This new instalment offers all the hack-and-slash combat fans love, with the added excitement of up to 10,000 soldiers on-screen at once. You’ll play as a nameless hero with amnesia, battling through the Three Kingdoms era. If you’ve been missing the iconic series, this is the one to look out for.
