If you consider yourself to be a gamer, that’s something that a lot of people say about themselves - but how true is it of you? This is something that you might want to think about, because there are all sorts of people out there who might say the same. And there is no doubt that there can be a certain amount of competition about this in itself too. However, it has to be said that there are indeed some particular signs which are indicative of a true gamer and which you might be keen to look out for.

In this post, we are going to take a look at some of the clearest signs of a true gamer. If you display any of the following, and especially if you show all of them, then you can say that you are indeed a true gamer, and that it really is a big part of your life. Let’s see then what these signs are and how they might translate into a true gamer’s life.

Having A Favorite Platform

Few true gamers can be said not to have a favorite platform, and this is definitely one of the main things that you might want to be aware of when it comes to identifying a true gamer. If you can say for yourself that you have had one or two genuine arguments about which platform is best, then you can say that you are much more likely to be a true gamer. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you don’t enjoy other platforms, but having your absolute stand-out favorite is definitely a big part of the gaming experience.

Of course, this can change over time, and you might find that, while you used to be an XBox kind of gamer, now you much prefer Playstation or PC. But chances are, you will still have quite a strong feeling towards whichever one you now opt for, and that’s a sure sign that you are a real gamer at heart.

Playing A Wide Variety Of Games

Those who really love to game have a tendency to play all sorts of games, and this is something that you are definitely going to want to be aware of as well. You might have a preference for one kind of game over another, but probably you are happy to play pretty much whatever might happen to be out at the moment and which you think you can get on with. It’s amazing how many kinds of games are out there actually at any one time, and if you are a true gamer you are probably playing quite a few of them at any one time.

This might even extend beyond the AAA games into other territories - not only the more indie type games but also completely different ones too. For instance, you might find yourself spending some time on slot games or other similar games like this, when you are not playing on other platforms. That’s a sign that you are genuinely a gaming nerd, and that you have it in your blood.

Gamer-Style Clothing

It’s certainly the case that true gamers tend to dress a certain way as well, and this is something that you will definitely want to be aware of if you are wondering whether this applies to you. If you look at your wardrobe, you might notice that you have much of the same kind of stuff, whether you’ve gone down the indie kid route or a more goth type vibe. All of these can have gamer elements, and it’s often a culture that pervades beyond this too. But you can definitely very often tell a gamer by their clothes.

There’s nothing wrong with that, of course. And it doesn’t mean that you won’t have lots of individuality and personal style going on as well - of course there will be lots of that. It’s just that you’re likely to dress in a certain way when you are a gamer, and that it’s one of the biggest signs out there that you are a true gamer.

Litany Of Accessories

Most true gamers have a huge amount of gaming accessories around the place. In other words, not only will you have the consoles and computers and so on, but also all of the possible peripheral stuff too. That might include headphones, a gamer’s chair, good speakers, gaming controllers and so on. There are probably going to be one or two big screens set up just right so that you can immerse yourself as fully as possible into your game too. All of this is going to be incredibly strongly indicative of a certain type of gamer, namely one that makes it most of their whole life.

So if you have a lot of this stuff going on in your home, you can be sure that it’s showing you up as a true gamer, and that’s something that you are probably going to be proud of. In fact, you will probably always be keen on trying to get even more accessories that you can make use of in your gaming, and there are indeed always more to be had.

Preferred Genres

There are so many different genres of game too, and you might find that gamers tend to have a preference for some kinds over others. Probably, you will find that you tend to go for one or two particular genres of game, and just having that preference is a pretty clear indicator that you are a strong gamer where it’s a major part of your life. So this is something that you should definitely be aware of and try to bear in mind if you are thinking about what makes a gamer a gamer. Someone who only does it casually won’t necessarily have very strong opinions about this in the same way.

Note that this doesn’t mean all confirmed gamers have the same preferences - it’s just that you probably have a strong preference. That’s a sure sign that you are a real gamer.

Using Gaming Terminology

Like pretty much any other hobby in the world, gaming has its own terminology, its own language, that gamers are going to pick up. So you can often tell if you have encountered a true gamer in the wild by the way they speak, and this is something that is going to be really obvious from the outset. There will be certain words, phrases and ways of speaking that are from the world of gaming - which includes not just games themselves but the whole growing internet culture around those games.

You may have noticed yourself using a lot of these terms, often without really noticing where you picked them up from. Over time it can develop into a complete language, and that is definitely what happened in the world of gaming. So it’s often pretty easy to tell when someone else is as much of a gamer as you from the way that they are also using many of these kinds of words.

Knowledge Of Gaming History

There is a lot to know about the history of gaming, but most people won’t really know with that much depth. However, if you are a true gamer, you’ll probably have a sense of the main elements at least of gaming history, as well as probably having an opinion or two about all this. If you know that this is true of you, then you can probably call yourself a real gamer, and it’s something that you are probably going to have noticed in gaming friends as well. All in all, this is the kind of thing that can really show someone up as being a real gamer.

Activity On Forums

There are so many gaming forums online now, and being active on these is a sure sign that someone is a real gamer. You might know someone who is on them every day, and if so this is the kind of thing that is really going to be a sign of a real gamer. It could be you, of course. If you tend to spend a lot of time talking to people online about different games, then it’s clear that it’s a major part of your life in a big way, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

There are other places where gamers often gather too, and if you are also aware of and part of those, then that’s going to be another clear sign that you are a pretty active gamer all in all.

As you can see, there are a lot of potential signs that someone is a true gamer.

This is complete bullshit. There are no "requirements" to be a gamer, it's a hobby god damb it! This gatekeeping, elitist bullshit is not only incorrect, it's also troublesome because it breeds a very bad attitude. Besides, what the fuck do you know? You post your "articles" here just to plug casinos and other betting/gambling affiliates.

There is nothing like true eater as one will eat what they need, when they want and it same goes with gamer. Whether it's PC or indoor or outdoor gaming.

There is no such thing. That is a consumer term. I enjoy Videogames because where I grew up / live, we had gang violence, child-predators ( the ones who wants to pick you up in a van ). corrupted teachers, doctors, and so much more stuff.

I will admit studying and exercising would replace that but Sailor-moon made a point about playing too-much videogames. Do not do it. Where Mercury who actually studies and have a real boyfriend literally took out Rabbit's score with relative ease.

That is the truth. Playing it less makes you better. Playing too much becomes stupid work.
