Tower of Fantasy

You’ve probably heard of this one before, because all of the internet seems to be talking about it at the moment. When a free game takes off, it really takes off. Following in the footsteps of Genshin Impact, this is an MMO open world action RPG with an anime aesthetic and gacha mechanics that you use to unlock additional characters and weapons.

The game is set in the distant future and takes place on the planet Aida. Here humans have settled after the Earth has become increasingly uninhabitable. On this planet, they discover omnium, an extremely powerful energy source… Although in their ignorance they inadvertently caused a cataclysmic event, wiping out a chunk of their population and creating all kinds of monsters in the surrounding environment. Once you step into this world, you’ll have no shortage of things to do, from mucking around with friends, to crafting, fighting monsters, and making food. It’s easy to spend hundreds of hours on Tower of Fantasy.

Cult of the Lamb

In this dark, yet cutesy roguelike, what starts off as certain death when four mysterious figures try to sacrifice you, soon turns into a deal with the devil, when he saves you and then tasks you with starting a cult in his name. Once you work through the tutorial, you’re quickly introduced to your base and earn your first loyal follower who you can instruct to get started on chopping trees and collecting resources to build houses and facilities.

To get more followers, you must venture out into the wild to complete levels, choosing paths to obtain helpful items all while building up your cult. The more followers you have, the higher the level, and you can suck the devotion from your loyal worshipers to unlock things and level up further. Cult of the Lamb is an accessible roguelike, great for newcomers to the genre as there’s not much punishment in death and not too many controls to get to grips with, but check out our beginner’s Cult of the Lamb guide for help on getting started.

Disney Dreamlight Valley

If games like Animal Crossing are your thing, then 2022’s most popular new life sim Disney Dreamlight Valley might be up your street, putting you in charge of a cute and colourful village filled with your favourite Disney and Pixar characters. It doesn’t have quite as much building and customisation appeal as Animal Crossing, though you can move the buildings, foliage, and footpaths, but it makes up for it with story depth and questlines. These unique friendship quests give you more reason to keep revisiting than just checking in on villagers, stocking up from the local shop, and reeling in the same fish.

Football Manager 2023

The latest yearly instalment to the Football Manager series, 2023 is an easy inclusion because it’s simply the best football management simulator we’ve ever seen. The improvements from last year’s game to this one are small, but while it only takes small steps forwards, it doesn’t take any backwards, meaning this is the perfect starting point if you’re new to the series or if you haven’t played an FM game before.

Whether you want to start off strong as a footballing titan such as Real Madrid, you want to take a lower tier club to the heights of the Champions League, or you want to be as realistic as possible and start your career unemployed, before you know it you’ll have lost hundreds of hours celebrating your success – or not, if you end up getting sacked in the morning.

A Plague Tale Requiem

An action-adventure game and the worthy successor to A Plague Tale: Innocence, we raved about Requiem’s character development, plotline and many, many rats in our Plague Tale Requiem review, saying, “A Plague Tale Requiem is much the same as Innocence in terms of gameplay, but its character development and blood-soaked universe make it an absolute pleasure to play.”

In a bid to control Hugo’s curse, and hopefully cure it, Amicia and Hugo escape their homeland and venture to new cities and regions. You can either choose to land killer blows on enemies or skulk in the shadows and approach it like a stealth game.

I love Dreamlight Valley it is so fun I've been playing since it released and it keeps getting better
