A Samurai Must Have Patience
Children of Morta developer Dead Mage has some bad news about their next game: the Tale of Ronin release date has been delayed well beyond its planned Summer 2020 release.
If you haven't yet heard of this upcoming game, check out the Tale of Ronin Announce Trailer to get a feel for its vibe:

"Samurai culture, narrative, and turn-based games have their unique, knowledgeable fans, and we are trying to make an excellent game for them to enjoy," explained Dead Mage's Studio Director Amir Fassihi in an interview with The Escapist.

Just as the title describes, Tale of Ronin will focus on "ronin" — samurai who do not have a master. Serving one's master is an important part of samurai culture and their honor code, so ronin are outcasts of a sort in Japanese society of the time.

"I believe many deep questions arise for a samurai when he becomes a ronin, issues stemming from the conflicts of duty and conscience," Ami Fassihi added. "We would like to let the player decide the answers to these questions."

The game's combat will feature a unique "simultaneous resolve turn-based system." This new "Hachiman" system is intended to make battles feel like a real samurai sword fight where both combatants strike at once. You might hit your opponent, yes — or they might just as easily block, parry, or otherwise counter your attack.

Prowess in battle will depend on Energy, Courage, and Mind. These three stands are the foundation of each of your fighters, and using the right samurai for the right situation will be critical.

When is the Tale of Ronin Release Date?
While this upcoming game from Dead Mage has been in development since 2016, the company has largely been focused on getting Children of Morta out the door. Now that we know Tale of Ronin's development is well underway, we can look forward to getting our hands on this game sooner rather than later.

When is the Tale of Ronin release date?

Unfortunately, all we know for now is that it's set to launch in 2021. Dead Mage seems pretty confident that we won't face the same kind of long development period as we did with their previous game Children of Morta, so it's looking like they have a good chance to stick to this release window.

This super-cool samurai game is looking pretty darn good! You can look forward to a Kickstarter campaign arriving sometime in the future. We'll have to wait until next year to actually play it, but you can add Tale of Ronin to your wishlist on Steam for now.

I think a lot of games are pushing the date to the next year. Most likely next June in order to avoid the loss of revenue during the lockdown. I dont think they can recover if they release now.
