Take-Two Interactive is acquiring Codemasters for $994 million USD, expected to finalise in the first quarter of 2021.

Take-Two is the publisher behind 2K and Rockstar Games, and Codemasters is the publisher behind racing titles like the DiRT franchises, F1 and Slightly Mad Studios’ Project CARS. Strauss Zelnick at Take-Two said that the acquisition will be “highly complimentary” to the company’s sports portfolio, which includes NBA 2K, PGA Tour 2K, WWE 2K and NHL 2K.

DiRT 5 is the latest from Codemasters and was released on PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC last week. An Xbox Series X and Series S version is now available, with a PS5 version to follow tomorrow.

It's an interesting move, for sure. Keeps them ahead of EA Sports' lineup, for sure, and gives them one heavy-hitting racing studio to keep up with Microsoft as they continue to acquire development team after development team.

Seems like they are spending a lot of money on a company that doesn't seem very big.

Big move from Take Two. Nice to see that they went for a racing studio
