"After Star Wars was released, it became apparent that my story—however many films it took to tell—was only one of thousands that could be told about the characters who inhabit its galaxy. But these were not stories that I was destined to tell. Instead, they would spring from the imagination of other writers, inspired by the glimpse of a galaxy that Star Wars provided. Today, it is an amazing, if unexpected, legacy of Star Wars that so many gifted writers are contributing new stories to the Saga."
- George Lucas

Now known as Star Wars Legends, the Expanded Universe (or EU for short) compassed every single book, video game, published work, etc outside of the then six movies and the Clone Wars series all into one. Basically everything made until April 25, 2014 when the House of Mouse took the reins. The content in the EU explores and continues the stories told in the films, taking place anywhere from over 36,000 years before The Phantom Menace to 136 years after Return of the Jedi.

This game in particular takes place 14 years after the Battle of Yavin.

Ten years after the Battle
of Endor, the IMPERIAL
REMNANT continues to
be driven back by the
NEW REPUBLIC, forcing
the Imperials to adopt
increasingly desperate
tactics in the ongoing
struggle.

Meanwhile, Jedi Master
LUKE SKYWALKER
moves to restore the
JEDI to their formal place
as peacekeepers of the
galaxy at his JEDI
ACADEMY on Yavin 4.

JADEN KORR, a
promising student from
Coruscant, is en route to
the Academy after
achieving the impossible:
creating a lightsaber
without any formal Jedi
training…

2 years after the events of Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, a new student named Jaden Korr along with some other hopefuls are heading to Yavin 4 where they will begin their training to become Jedi Knights. Along the way, they are attacked by a mysterious organization known as the Disciples of Ragnos, a Sith cult. Jaden, and his new friend Rosh Penin, must work their way to get to the Jedi Temple where Master Luke Skywalker awaits. There, Jaden meets his new Jedi Master named Kyle Katarn. The rest is up to you....

Jaden Korr:

"Ooookay, so it's a big, dead, important rock."

A thirteen year old (yes I said 13 year old lol) child prodigy from Coruscant, Jaden is a Force-sensitive user who was accepted to train as a Jedi at Jedi Master Luke Skywalker's Jedi Praxeum on the moon of Yavin 4. Assigned as an apprentice to Jedi Master Kyle Katarn, Korr participated in the fight against a newly emerged dark side cult called the Disciples of Ragnos,. Jaden is an avatar character and can be changed to fit with your personal view of a Jedi and can be male or female. (You can choose to be a male and female human, male Kel-Dor, male Rodian, female Twi-lek or a female Zabrak).

Rosh Penin:

"I'll bet these Cultists can't take on a Jedi."

Rosh is a Human male Jedi student at the Jedi Praxeum located on Yavin 4, after the fall of the Galactic Empire, where he was trained in the ways of the Force by Jedi Master Kyle Katarn. In the ship onboard to the Jedi Praxeum, he met Jaden Korr, and the two eventually developed a friendship. Arrogant at times and impatient at worst, Rosh still wants to prove himself as a Jedi and oftentimes thinks that Kyle Katarn is holding him back from reaching his true potential. He will need all the help he can get to stay on the path of the Jedi.

Kyle Katarn:

"Kyle Katarn, at your service. Welcome to a day in the life of a Jedi."

Originally the star of the Jedi Knight and Dark Forces video games, he is now serving a role as your mentor in this iteration. Kyle, a Force-sensitive user, taught himself to become a Jedi while in search of the Valley of the Jedi. During this journey, he confronted the dark side within both himself and in the form of the Dark Jedi Jerec and his minions. Then, confronted with the fallen Jedi Desann, Kyle matured and was able to vanquish the fallen Jedi with the help of Jan Ors and Luke. After defeating After Desann's defeat, Katarn was promoted to Jedi Master and continued in the ways of the Force as an instructor at Skywalker's Academy.

Luke Skywalker:

"I sense a disturbance in the Force."

The Jedi Grand Master of the Jedi Academy. He oversees and trains new Jedi recruits with the help of other teachers in the Jedi Praxeum. He and Kyle have worked together countless times in the past and are now working along with the other teachers to ensure the future of the Jedi Order through the next generation. Wise, cautious, and incredibly strong in the ways of the Force, Luke carries an air of tranquility unlike anything the Jedi have ever seen. You as Jaden will occasionally interact with him, and he will guide you on the path that you as a Jedi decide to take.

Alora:

"Are the Jedi stretched so thin that Skywalker sends children to battle the Disciples of Ragnos?"

Alora, a female Lethan Twi'lek, is a member of the dark side cult led by her master. She came under the tutelage of Tavion Axmis during Axmis' effort to resurrect an ancient Sith Lord with a powerful dark side artifact called the Scepter of Ragnos. Alora is her most prized apprentice and is tasked by Axmis to infiltrate Jedi Master Luke Skywalker's Jedi Academy on the moon Yavin 4. After gaining access to the Jedi mainframes, Alora manages to steal a list of locations strong in the Force so that Axmis could siphon the Force energies from there using the Scepter of Ragnos and then use the energy to resurrect the dark lord.

Tavion Axmis:

"Your pathetic Jedi mercy is a weakness that will cost you your life, and the life of your academy's students."

After her defeat at the hands of Kyle Katarn and Desann's subsequent death in Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, she became the leader of the her own Sith cult. Seeing the potential in Alora, she takes the Twilek as her apprentice, and set herself upon the task of resurrecting an ancient Sith Lord who has promised her the power to destroy all her enemies. Bitter after her loss against Katarn when she was younger, she carries a personal grudge that she will use against his students in order to break down his spirit. With her scepter at hand she is a force to be reckoned with.

Jedi Academy is a first and third-person shooter game. You as Jaden Korr can wield a variety of weapons such as blasters as well as lightsabers and use Force powers. You can choose a perspective for every weapon except for the lightsaber, which can only be used in third person view. You have a health meter and a shield meter, which are replenished separately but can be quickened by specific force powers. You have access to a variety of Force powers in addition to your lightsaber. Powers include Push, Pull, Jump, Heal, Lightning, and other abilities. Force powers are categorized into core, Light (defensive) and Dark (offensive), and each Force power has three ranks, with the power increasing in effectiveness with each rank. In both single-player and multiplayer, players choose how to rank up their powers, adding a layer of customization. During gameplay, the "Force meter" is what lets you use your powers. It gets depleted when powers are used, and recharges when no powers are in use.

Jedi Academy is mainly focused on saber combat. You can make your own custom lightsaber with a hilt and with one of five blade colors! Later on as your progress, you can choose to wield a single saber, or upgrade to dual sabers, or get a double-bladed lightsaber which also adds a kicking ability unavailable with any other lightsaber. The different sabers each have unique styles and special moves. When using a single saber, Jaden can choose between three stances which affect the speed and power of attacks; if using dual sabers, you can switch off the second saber and use the "Fast"-style single-saber stance, or if using a double-bladed saber, you can switch the staff into a single-bladed saber that uses the "Medium"-style saber stance.

This is where the fun begins! Multiplayer is basically taking your avatar (via creating a new Jaden Korr or importing your version from the single player campaign) or choosing a variety of already available characters like Luke or Desann, and going to town with other players! There are a variety of maps to choose from. You also have multiple playable modes like Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Power Duel. Though at the end of the day if you want the most popular mode, you'll want to go with Free for Fall You can choose to fight alone or fight in teams! If you have no one around, then you can offline with bots! Bots can have different difficulty levels and can be any character you want.

I played this today on switch. It was... interesting. Kind lf hard to get used to the controls of it but it was fun. I'm juat used to playing it on pc for all these years. I highly reccomend this to anyone who wants to learn the lightsaber. This is the best damn lightsaber combat game period. It has been since 2003. Also Rosh Penin is my god.
