Buying the EVO fighting tournament doesn't seem like Sony's only goal on the esports scene, although it may end up being the least controversial of the plans on the horizon. Especially if this patent for a betting platform is finally developed.

Registered on May 13 - although it was presented at the end of 2019 - by Michael Chow, one of PlayStation's machine learning engineers, the description of the patent speaks of a system of betting probabilities intended to offer information to the viewer for bets pecuniary or non-pecuniary.

The idea is that, in advance, the user can access virtual simulations on the odds of winning with his next bet, for example reviewing statistics, simulations and previous games to discern whether or not a grenade can kill three enemies.

From there, the platform would determine the chances of this happening from that moment until the end of the game and would allow the user to place the bet with different options, such as withdrawing the prize in advance reducing income or even placing mutual bets (bets made by several bettors in a common bag that is later distributed in proportion to the amount bet).

Faced with the possibility of making pecuniary or non-pecuniary bets, it is implied that, as with games like CS: GO, there is the possibility of betting with game items instead of real money, although unlike that case This possibility is also raised on the platform.

As in the rest of company patents, the information registered does not necessarily imply that Sony has initiated the development of the idea or that it intends to do so, but it has ensured that possibility against possible competitors.

At the moment neither Sony nor PlayStation have publicly shown their intention to develop a betting platform for esports, a move that would undoubtedly generate a lot of controversy as it has done on other platforms or with the problem of loot boxes.

Sounds very attractive to players. Sony would make a good partnership with casinos that use the same currency, bitcoin. It'll be a lot easier.
