Is a movie based on Saints Row on its way to our screens?

After directing Straight Outta Compton, The Fate of the Furious, and the upcoming Men In Black: International, F. Gary Gray is set to lead a film based on the wholey random Saints Row games. In addition, Greg Russo, the writer who's been handling things with the Hollywood Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil films is also getting involved.

Created by Deep Silver Volition, Saints Row spans four installments and has become one of the top-selling video game franchises of all time. It tells the story of the rise of the Third Street Saints as they battle rival gangs in an attempt to conquer the fictional cities of Stilwater and Steelport.

The film is set to be a co-production between Fenix Studios, Occupant Entertainment, and Koch Media – the THQ Nordic subsidiary which owns Saints Row publisher Deep Silver as reported here by Deadline. However, at this point in the timeline, there is no reports on who may be involved in the cast, release dates or really, anything of relevance at all. At this tsage, it appears to be mainly a thought that's going through the processes.

However, we have seen plenty of Hollywood deals for game-based films fall through before all at various stages of production, so at this point there’s no guarantee this movie will ever see the light of day. But if it does get the greenlight, surely there’s nobody better to lead up a Saints Row movie than somebody involved in the Fast and the Furious series. Cars and destruction, it's the same thing really.
