The Nintendo World Championships have been held three times. The first one took place in 1990, touring 29 American cities and being hosted in Los Angeles, CA twice. The second championship occurred in 2015 as part of Nintendo’s E3 coverage, and the third was in 2017. Recently, a video game titled “Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition” was released on the Nintendo Switch, allowing players to test their speedrunning skills across more than 150 challenging moments from 13 classic NES games. Fun fact: The 1990 championship used a custom NES cartridge with three customized minigames based on Super Mario Bros., Rad Racer, and Tetris.
