Halo Infinite will launch “with no barriers” across Xbox consoles and PC, offering free-to-play multiplayer on all available platforms, Microsoft has asserted.
On Xbox Series X, multiplayer will run at 120 FPS. The free multiplayer and paid campaign mode, also included in Xbox Game Pass, will launch later in 2021.
During the Xbox and Bethesda E3 2021 showcase, Microsoft revealed a cinematic scene from the campaign.
Microsoft said:
The heart of Halo is Spartan-117, the Master Chief. In the next chapter, he faces his toughest challenge yet, but you’re not alone in the fight.
After flying through space and retrieving his weapon, Master Chief encounters an AI, but it’s not Cortana.
Master Chief asked:
What happened, where is Cortana?
A new AI replied:
The rogue AI known as Cortana is gone. She has been deleted.
Master Chief concluded:
The mission has changed. They always do.
