After years of speculation, Europa Universalis V has finally been unveiled, marking a new chapter in Paradox Interactive’s legendary grand strategy series. The game, developed by Paradox Tinto, has been in the works for five years, and promises to deliver the most ambitious and detailed Europa Universalis experience yet.
One of the biggest changes in Europa Universalis V is its expanded timeline, starting in 1337—just before the Hundred Years’ War—and running all the way to 1837. This means players will now navigate through six historical ages, including the Renaissance, Age of Discovery, and the Age of Revolution, shaping their nation’s destiny through diplomacy, trade, and military strategy.
Another major innovation is the population-based system, which replaces the traditional province-focused mechanics. Inspired by Victoria 3, this system introduces POPs, representing different social classes, cultures, and religions. Managing these groups effectively will be crucial for maintaining stability and economic growth.
The map has also been significantly upgraded, featuring more nations, varied topographical features, and a highly detailed world. Rivers, mountains, and straits will now play a bigger role in battles, making terrain a key factor in military strategy.
Paradox has also revamped the trade and economic systems, moving away from merchants and trade nodes in favor of regional markets. Players will now need to establish trade routes, manage production, and balance supply and demand to build a thriving economy.
While there’s no official release date yet, Paradox has confirmed that Europa Universalis V is “coming soon,” and pre-orders are already available on Steam.
