With the first week of the Fortnite World Cup ending, and the second beginning today, Epic Games has recently released information regarding actions they have taken on over one thousand cheaters.

Johnathan Kosmala, for example, was recently ejected from the esports team Kaliber for cheating during the World Cup Qualifiers. Apparently, he was reported by the creator of the cheat he happened to be using. In addition, Dubs fn has been accused of cheating, though Dubs denies these allegations and no concrete evidence has come to light.

Today, Epic Games released a statement regarding 'competitive game integrity' which contained information on actions taken against those who have used unsavory methods when competing. In total, 1163 accounts (including 196 prize winners) were banned for 14 days for "circumventing region locks and playing in multiple regions through the course of the tournament." An additional 48 accounts (nine of which were prize winners) were banned for 14 days as well for account sharing. A further 8 accounts were banned for teaming (one prize winner), and one account has been given a 72-hour ban for purposefully disconnecting so their opponent would not gain points. And finally, one account was given a permanent ban for their use of cheat software during the finals- they were in the game for not five minutes before their software was detected and they were banned.

The prize winners will be forfeiting their reward money, however, according to Epic Games "disqualified players forfeiting their winnings will result in the tournament results shifting for prize considerations, but won't currently be reflected on the in-game leaderboard."

In their statement, Epic Games has also made it clear where and how viewers can report gamers and assist in the detection of unfair gameplay. According the the company, they intend to improve their detection of cheaters in the near future. Epic Games finished the article off with "Our primary goal is to support competition that is fun, inclusive, and in line with the overall spirit of Fortnite. Unsportsmanlike conduct from participants is not within that spirit, and will not be tolerated in Fortnite competition."
