Cyberpunk 2077 will have a shorter campaign because players didn’t finish the main questline of The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, CD Projekt Red has confirmed.

Patrick K Milles, Senior Quest Designer, via the most recent Night City livestream said:
We do know that the main story run in Cyberpunk 2077 is slightly shorter than The Witcher 3 because we got a lot of complaints about Witcher 3’s main story just being too long.

Looking at the metrics, you see tremendous numbers of people played through that game really far, but never made it to the end. We want you to see the full story, so we did shorten the main story, but we have lots to do, and in terms of a completionist campaign, I just don’t have that number.

Cyberpunk 2077 heads to PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC on November 19; followed by a Stadia release in 2020. The title will head to PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2021, offering backward compatibility on both consoles.

Its because there was an overload of side-content in the game that affected the main story, thus causing more people to forgo the Main Story Questline in favor for the side content. Lessening the Main Story Questline isn't going to solve the issue of players not beating the game, especially when you are making more side content in this product when compared to the last product.

All you have to do is take one look at the Witcher 3 Achievements and you can see that players stopped playing the storyline in favor for doing all the side content. Some players where able to accomplish this while others were not and just called it enough.

If they really want more players beating the game this time then they'll have to lessen the amount of side activities then, otherwise it's just going to be the same thing as the Witcher 3 where there are more players who brought all allies to Kaer Morhen then those that beat the game on "Blood and Broken Bones" difficulty.

Either way it doesn't really matter if the player beats the game or not because at the end of the day it's their choice on whether they want to beat it or not after they bought it, I mean I still know some folks that have bought Banjo and Kazooie when it launched and still have yet to beat it due to X or Y reason.

The only thing this decision is going to do in the long run is simply make those players that beat the game feel like the game is much shorter then the previous product, thus making them think it's an inferior product length wise then the last one they released, since a good number of players just do the MSQ and that's it, that's the game for them.

So it'll be interesting on what the public's response to this product is goin to be when it releases considering everything about the game, I can see it's steam page getting a "Mixed" rating as a result. But we'll see what happens.
