With the release of Call of Duty: Warzone being free to play, many fans have wondered how Warzone will fit into the Call of Duty world when the new yearly Call of Duty releases deploy.

Although we still don’t have a clear picture as to what that will look like, Infinity Ward’s Taylor Kurosaki says in an interview with GamerGen that Warzone has challenged the studios to rethink content release strategy to best support the variety of players now in Call of Duty with this being free to play.

When asked in the interview about 2020 Call of Duty game, Kurosaki says that Warzone will be the ‘through line that connects’ the various Call of Duty sub-franchises.

He also says that Warzone will be the ‘one constant’ of Call of Duty every year with the different sub-franchises of Call of Duty. It’s not clear what that means in how long they plan to support Warzone or if other Call of Duty devs will release content or maps for Warzone based off of their games.

We’re in kind of uncharted territories here. Call of Duty has been on a very regular cadence for many many years, and Warzone has made us rethink exactly how best to release new content and how to integrate it. Call of Duty is a genre in itself, there are different branches in the Call of Duty tree, but they’re all connected in some ways. Warzone will be the through line that connects all of the different various sub-franchises of Call of Duty.

It’s going to be really cool to see how the different sub-franchises sort of come in and out of focus, but Warzone will be the one constant.

We will update as we get more info on the future support of Call of Duty: Warzone.

I think it would be like PUBG where the basic premise and the regions would remain same and then maps would connect each island out. I remember many games tried this type of sub franchise approach in the past too.
