Big news for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 players—Sandfall Interactive is rolling out a major balance update on May 9, and it’s set to nerf one of the game’s most powerful moves: Stendhal.
For those unfamiliar, Stendhal is a late-game skill used by Maelle that has been dominating the meta due to its insane damage output. Originally, the developers boosted its power just before launch, but they now admit they “clearly overdid it”. The move has been so strong that it overshadowed most other options, making it too easy to break the game.
The upcoming patch will reduce Stendhal’s damage, but Sandfall Interactive reassures players that it will still be a strong single-hit skill with great synergy potential. The update will first roll out on Steam, with console versions following shortly after.
Naturally, the community has mixed reactions. Some players argue that having one overpowered move in a single-player RPG isn’t a bad thing, while others support the nerf, saying it will encourage more strategic gameplay.
With Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 already selling over two million copies and receiving widespread praise, this update is a sign that the developers are committed to refining the experience.
What do you think? Will this nerf improve the game’s balance, or do you prefer keeping Stendhal as an ultra-powerful move? Let’s discuss how this change might impact late-game strategies!
