Can you think of any games that have made a comeback?

I'm sure at one point or another we've all wished that we could either bring a franchise back from the gates of death or we've had a game that has taken the franchise from a niche pastime into the mainstream. Are there any franchise that you can think that has truly exploded or made a roaring comeback from the brink?

One that stands out to me is Fallout. Fallout 3 was an immense game, as was Fallout NV (for me anyway) but it wasn't until Fallout 4 came out that I think people really remembered that it existed. Certainly among my lot anyway I cant say I heard about it until F4 came out.

What about you? Any franchises come to mind?

I think bioshock turned out to be good. Also the walking dead game. And resident evil series. Even the silent hill series turned out to be good over period of time.
