Discussion Are gaming forums dying?

On Google Maps, I cannot find the wee yellow man that you need to select for the street view.

Google are dicks, who think they own you. When you delete a profile, they leave traces of your information behind, and YouTube's flagging system is also shite.

I believe social media apps are the reason behind this. On apps like Twitter Facebook & Instagram it shows the amount of followers you have which leads to making people feel popular & famous. Kind of like the high school QB or Cheerleader.
Apps like Discord are live chats so people are interacting right then and there.
The forum is like make a post and wait for a response. This generation is more about attention and instant action.
Just my opinion take it for whatever you want.

Yeah, and some people have short attention spans when it comes to worthwhile topics.

I edited on Wikipedia, so it must be "factual" content aimed at Capcom for their next remake. They even said they read Wikipedia to get the ideas for their games. ?

Besides message boards being like a late night pub, I think even escort sites are dying. There's one I know that has fake profiles of women who look like high class models. :p

I don't know why, but I feel like the Internet nowadays, has been neutered in some manner. It's 2022, damn it. Shouldn't forums have 1000 active users? Why was it that 2003 had more members posting than in 2022?

And yeah. Forums are dead today. Unless your forum is named GameFAQs. ;)

Any forum that claims a thousand people are just sat around watching them post is just ridiculous

Well, I don't think so because gaming is an industry that is growing rapidly and in the WEB 3.0 time, I guess gaming is just going to be a boom. And, coming to your question that what about gaming forums?

Well, I just think that with this rapid growth forums would be required to answer the questions of many people and players of different games and that's why people are writing about games, making websites, forums, yt channels, and many other things.

Well, I also have a gaming website so that's why I can relate to all of these things

Many forums are still active and we now have modern software such as Flarum which helps!

Because back in 2003 it was something n ew to everyone. Like a new hangout place that just opened. Now it is more like if you aren't popular or apart of the cool clique then your comments just get passed on by.

Yeah. I get that a lot with Resident Evil fans.

I want the franchise to improve, but they think I only like the old ones. But I would enjoy the new games too, if they actually felt like they were sequels to the earliest entries. But it's hard to accept that they're related with how disjointed everything feels. :D

Inappropriate advertising / spam
No, forums are not dead. They are not dying. In fact, for thousands of niche subjects, they are the only way to properly share information.

Of all the forums that I know still exist that I've registered on, they are all pretty much dead. Whether that's forums aimed at covering video games, or some other subject. It doesn't matter what the forum is about. Because I know I can post a thread, go back within hours or even days to that website, and it's normally the case that nobody has responded.

Even when people do reply, sometimes the post they submit is so generic or badly written, that it's just like, meh. Give them an A for effort, I suppose. ;)

About the only really active gaming forum I know of, is GameFAQs. And that is sad. I've used GameFAQs with different profiles before. But I told myself after I closed my last account there, that that was it. The users there are no good for having a civilized discussion with. If you just "speak the truth" about something, they think you're whining.

It's sad to see that forums covering video games are dead now. These days, you basically have to go on people's YouTube videos or engage on live streams to engage with your fellow fans.

Facebook and Twitter sucks as well. It often feels like you're just adding "friends" you may or may not see any more, and then having them unfriend you afterwards, one at a time, because they're either shallow or they terminated their membership. Plus, I think people use these social media sites merely as some sort of outlet to show off how cool something is they've partook in, but it's not the same as having some in real life reaction.

I don't really use YouTube any more, due to certain wankers monitoring me. It seems whenever I closed one channel and made another one a few weeks later, these sad idiots would soon discover me again and then make videos basically saying, "He's back, guys. Go bug him".

To be honest, I may stop contributing to the Horror Film Wiki now too. I've had too many visitations from a particular Kiwi screwball, using female identities, and who enjoys editing every page that I do, as if it's a game of tag. Plus, it's dead anyway. Who needs niche wikis for finding information anyway? :(

To be honest, I think they have a personality disorder. You can find them lining up at the local job center every Friday morning, their noses buried in their smartphone, while trying to be smart. AKA, get a job. Get laid. Get a life.

:p
Yes, it's sad. Most forums I am in are no longer that active.

This gaming forum doesn’t look dead to me. Yeah maybe it’s not popping off like the likes of ResetEra or NeoGAF but I prefer forums where my posts actually get read and replied to.

I think gaming forums were never that great. Well, there were active gaming forums in the past and we still have some cool gaming forums but the platforms like reddit and discord took away the charm of gaming forums.

One thing that I forgot to mention is that most forums are desktop web based vs people in this generation would rather use an app feature on the cell phone. It is really hard to beat that so if the forum isn't app based where someone can reach it directly with a phone, most people will not give it a chance.
