As it enters its next generation, the video game industry is in the midst of an exciting period of transition. The PlayStation 5 will be released near the end of 2020, and it is already wowing audiences with its power and innovation in gaming.

Sony has a bright future ahead of it, and while the PlayStation 5 had some excellent launch titles, it wasn't until 2021 that the PlayStation 5 truly shined. There are some highly anticipated games planned to arrive in 2022, but there are also plenty that have a much more ambiguous release date or are only reported to be in production. Here are 9 PS5 games coming to your game consoles in 2022.

1. Persona 3: Portable Remaster

This entry, unlike the others in this article, is entirely hypothetical. Other than Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Atlus has not disclosed any significant plans for Persona, but it has confirmed that the franchise will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2022. Because a remake of a PS3 fighting game is unlikely to be the end of the story, rumours about what else Atlus has planned for the year have been circulating.

Because the beloved JRPG is only accessible on PS3, PS2, and PSP, a remaster of Persona 3: Portable is a favourite for prospective announcements. This entry, out of all the prospective Person projects, is likely the one that fans most want to see. As good as Persona 4 and 5 are, one could argue that the third instalment is still the franchise's pinnacle, at least in terms of storytelling.

2. SpellForce 3 Reforced

SpellForce 3 Reforced, which was announced in 2021, modifies the popular real-time strategy RPG to make it more accessible for consoles. The game was first released on PC in 2017, thus it seemed improbable that it would be ported to consoles after such a long period.

The base SpellForce 3 game is only included in Reforced; however, a Complete Edition will be released on the same day that includes both expansions, Soul Harvest and Fallen God. This is a substantial package with over a hundred hours of gameplay.

3. Evil West

Evil West, a supernatural-themed western from the studio behind the Shadow Warrior series and Hard Reset, debuted a stunning CG trailer in 2020, announcing a release date for the following year. Now, the game has been silent for nearly a year, only to resurface with a playable reveal at The Game Awards 2021. Evil West is now tentatively scheduled for release in 2022.

Evil West appears to be a spectacular rendition of Flying Wild Hog's brutal combat from its previous releases.

4. Digimon Survive

Digimon Survive has been through quite a production cycle, including a change of developers, since its announcement. Just as the game appeared to be doomed, Bandai Namco released a fresh video and confirmed a release date of 2022. Digimon may not have the same public appeal as Pokemon, but its games are more diverse, and the franchise has had a renaissance in recent years, with the Cyber Sleuth titles receiving great reviews.

Digimon Survive takes the franchise in a new path by combining visual novel and strategy RPG elements. Although nothing about the plot has been published so far, the game appears to have a mature tone.

5. Blacktail

Blacktail, a first-person adventure game centred around witchcraft, is a fascinating game that few people are aware of. Blacktail, a game created by The Parasight, puts players in the shoes of a 16-year-old girl who is expelled from her town after being suspected of witchcraft.

She begins to see dangerous ghosts while out on her own, and her only option is to pick up a bow and defend herself. So far, no release date for Blacktail has been set. The game was originally expected to be retired by the end of 2021, however that timeframe has now been pushed back to 2022.

6. Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown

When it comes to racing games, it may be difficult for PlayStation fans to go beyond Gran Turismo 7, but the genre has a lot more in store for 2022. The open-world game Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will be released in September 2022, and it will have a realistic depiction of Hong Kong Island.

While Test Drive isn't the most well-known franchise, it has a long history dating back to 1997, and Solar Crown is the first game in the series since Ferrari Racing Legends in 2012. Kylotonn (KT Racing), the same studio behind the current WRC games and V-Rally 4, is working on Solar Crown.

7. Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy, one of the most eagerly awaited games of the year, is set to release during the Holiday season of 2022, though no specific date has been set. Hogwarts Legacy is an action role-playing game set in the 1800s that immerses players in the famed fictitious institution and allows them to choose their own Hogwarts House.

Hogwarts Legacy could be the Harry Potter game the world has been waiting for, with an open-world that includes renowned locales from the books and movies. It's unclear whether Avalanche Software will achieve its 2022 deadline; in the end, the most important thing is that the studio has all the time they need to create the greatest Hogwarts Legacy version possible.

8. No More Heroes 3

Travis Touchdown's most recent adventure was released in 2021 as a Nintendo Switch exclusive to positive reviews. Xseed Games revealed in April 2022 that No More Heroes 3 would be coming to various platforms, including the PS4 and PS5.

The hack and slash series is noted for its outrageous nature, absurdist humour, and flashes of emotional depth, all of which can be found in abundance in the third numbered edition. The boss fights are the highlight of this No More Heroes package, as they always are, with stunning visuals, hard fighting, and memorable characters.

9. The Legend Of Heroes: Trails From Zero

While Nihon Falcom's The Legend of Heroes series has consistently delivered outstanding turn-based JRPGs, it took some time for the genre to acquire traction outside of Japan. The Trails in the Sky and Trails of Cold Steel games, particularly the latter subseries, are now accessible to Western players, while the Crossbell arc is not. These PSP titles, which include Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure, have been locked in Japan for nearly a decade, but that is about to change.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero is set in a city caught between two powerhouses and follows a police detective's investigations. Trails from Zero, like the rest of the series, offers excellent storyline, a robust battle system, and detailed settings. In 2023, trails to Azure are also likely to decrease.
