Indeed there are great games in 2D. But I prefer the casual games from hobby developers as they are not flooded with mandatory ads and IAPs.
Unfortunately the high quality games are mostly commercialized heavily.
I tried a few idle games but get bored very fast. In most cases this idle thing does not make any sense and destroying games which could be great by their story or atmosphere. I really enjoyed the grinding in RPG games in the past and would not try any further idle games.
I think people like games what they played when they were young or started with gaming. In 1990 most games have been 2D and they were great. And even the first browsergames without any graphics were great in gameplay.
