Google gives up on Tablets; leaves Apple in pole position

Google has no future plans to release additional tablet devices and has even canceled two models that were said to be in development according to a statement from Alphabet, Google's parent company. The last tablet that the company released was the Pixel Slate back in 2018. Google was also working on two smaller tablets but have stopped short of working any more on them in favour of focusing on laptops.

“For Google’s first-party hardware efforts, we’ll be focusing on Chrome OS laptops and will continue to support Pixel Slate,” a spokesperson told Business Insider. With Google's Hardware boss further confirming the decision in a later tweet.

It would appear that the company looked at stopping producing after disappointing quality assurance tests led the company to cease any further development of tablets. Google informed employees of its decision on Wednesday, with those working on the team seemingly being redeployed across the organisation, with a majority moving over to the Pixelbook team.
